The Umbrella Project - On Tour
I mention a lot about Celebrate Difference, and they’re one of the organisations I support as much as I can since they’ve supported me so much over the last few years, and even more so since I got my diagnosis for ADHD.
So when they launched last year the Umbrella project at their site, it was great to be involved in it, which is part of the ADHD Foundation Liverpool’s push to raise awareness of how many people are struggling at the moment. And one of the things they do is put umbrellas up all over the UK. Nicola Jayne Little had some at the office up at The Hub, obviously, at the first opportunity. That was a great launch last year.
This year, rolling forward, she’s found sponsorship and has managed to get some of these umbrellas in various locations around the North East. I’m going to be shooting more of them over the coming months. But this latest one in the middle of Newcastle, near Disability North, based just outside of the Freeman Hospital, was great to call in and just see how the team’s managed to fit in all of these umbrellas into a space that, I mean, I don’t think there is a space that’s really been designed to have umbrellas up all the time.
So it’s great just to be raising awareness and giving another talking point for when people come in. You know, the reasons people come into spaces depends on the business. But to have another talking point, another discussion point that leads to more conversations about mental health and how people individually can help and support other people, it’s just a great thing to be part of from my perspective. So it was great to capture pictures of the team and the umbrellas in situ. And we’re on the next one. I think the next one’s up in Consett somewhere, which should be another fun one. And hopefully that one isn’t rained off like it was the last time!
