North East business, York Thai contacted me looking for some promotional photography but hoping for a creative photographer who could show their unique business in a creative way. They liked my unique photography style and reputation for unique commercial photography; they were very excited about the opportunity to capture the gym and its fighters in a different light.
Muay Thai is a combat sport that originates from Siam, now known as Thailand, that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. This physical and mental discipline is often known as "the art of eight limbs" because it's full contact fighters use a combination of fist, elbow, knee and shin strikes (eight points of contact) as weapons against their opponent. Needless to say this was a unique yet exciting opportunity for me to use my creative photography skills to capture the speed and impact of this sport, creating a collection of unique promotional photographs.
I was commissioned to capture the ins and outs of a typical training session at the gym, for promotional purposes. Along with a rigorous 'warm up' session the fighters took part in pad training and sparring sessions in the ring: my aim being to capture the energy and dedication of the fighters, the professionalism of the gym and its instructors, and to inspire people to get involved in this ancient close-combat sport.
York Thai were over the moon with their promotional photographs and their fighters were bragging about the creative photographs I had captured. So much so, that they had me travel back down from Newcastle again a few months later to take some more promotional photographs, after a few gym improvements. Definitely another very happy client!
