Being offered the opportunity to be a commercial phtographer for one of the worlds largest companies, Accenture, was something I couldn't pass up. With a wildly diverse portfolio of work, This week I was shooting the #GirlsinSTEM event a the stunning Sage Gateshead.
The #GirlsinSTEM project brings together a vast range of organisations and specialists to support girls in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. As part of a national event, my role was to capture the fun of the 500 girls in attendance at the Newcastle / Gateshead event. Over the country there were other events but this one was the biggest!
It was great fun seeing the faces of the girls when faced with the starfish and being able to sit in a real ejector seat as supplied by the RAF. Also the virtual reality stations and endless cool uses for great technology. As you all know my background is in Chemistry so seeing some of the stalls it was great to take me back to my days in science.
The guest speakers and panel members were fantastic and inspiring. From BBC news Steph McGovern to Giselle Stewart OBE (Ubisoft) and so many others, the girls really enjoyed their stories and encouragement in to the STEM subjects.
The coverage of the events on social media was fantastic and led to the #GirlsinSTEM hashtag trending number on in the UK! From my personal perspective it was great to be able to see my images on the front page of the Journal and also a massive picture on the front of the business section. I have a feeling this set of images will end up going far and wide.
Being an event photographer is great to be able to chat and shoot with so many different people in a very short space of time. The Sage was an amazing backdrop to an amazing event.
This week again is full of more fun shoots and meetings. I'll kepp you all updated on some of the events I have planned. If you would like a chat about your event photography whether in Newcastle or further a field just get in touch!
